Arranging A Trip

We shall be happy if we have four weeks of vacation or holiday. We can heve vacation and put away the books for the time being. We must spend our vacation time wisely. Whatever our plans are, we must make the most of our vacation time. A happy holiday will refresh our mind to prepare the next school year with new interest and energy.

We may make our own arrangements for a trip, or we may prefer to use the services of a travel agency. But it will cost a lot of money if we use the services of a travel agency. It will be economical for us to make our own arrangements for a trip.

After discussing the places we shall visit, we decide to visit Taman Safari in Bogor regency. Then, we shall go straight to Bandung. We also examine the travel books, maps and guidebooks to get some notes of the places and points of interest that should not be missed. We prepare a pad and a pencil or a ballpoint pen to jot down where else we shall go and what else we shall see. We may find these notes useful in our schoolwork.

Medical Equipment

Before doctors can treat patients, they must find out exactly what is wrong. Learning what is wrong is called making a diagnosis. To become skilled diagnosticians, doctors need much training and experience, and they also need health equipment.

Aphysical examination of the patient may provide clues to what is wrong. One of the most important parts of the examination is done with a stethoscope. It is used to listen to the sounds of the heart valves as they open and close.

To measure blood pressure a doctor uses an instrument called a sphygmomanometre. A doctor can decide wether blood preassure is low, normal, or high.

Clinical thermometres are made in two different forms. One type is for taking the temperature by mouth or by armpit, and the other one for taking the temperature by rectum.

Television

Television is not only a source of entertainment, but it also a source of news and information. It is also a valuable tool for science, education, and industry. Television can show a lesson to thousands of students at once. Television allows us to watch over the battle or the spread of contageous diseases from a safe distance.

A television station may provide a satisfactory picture for a distance of only 50 miles or so its antenna. But many stations can be linked in a network making it possible for people all over a large country, like Indonesia, to watch a particular programme at the same time.

Some communities have poor reception or none at all. Distance maybe the reason or mountains may block the signals. Artificial satellites are used to carry television arround the world. Today internationally owned Intelsat provide worldwide television.

Expressing Encouragement

Indah   : Hi, Tuti, what are you reading??

Tuti      : I'm reading 'Layla Majnun'. What a romantic but tragic story!

Indah   : Oh no, I know you like romantic but tragic stories. Didn't you just read 'Salah Asuhan' before?

Tuti      : Yes, but I love these stories. They are written by marveolus writters, too.

Indah   : I will fall asleep if I read those kind of novels. I hate reading. Also, those books are too heavy for me to read.

Tuti      : Come on, Indah... you need to read. Maybe you should start reading novels with lighter subjects and language.

Indah   : Is there any?

Tuti      : Yes, of course. Why don't you start reading some chicklit or teenlit?? They are very populer right now. Try to read 'Brownies' by Fiira Basuki or Tentang Dia' by Melly Goeslaw for a start.

Indah   : Oh yeah. That's true. I want to read their novels.

Tuti      : See, how you get interested in reading. Why don't you just read about a subject that you like first?? Since you like to go shopping, why don't you read 'The Confession of a Shopaholic', for example?

Indah   : Hahahahahaha.. All right. I will read some teenlit or chicklit for a start.
